Halloween (Halloween, 1978) es una película de horror independiente de bajo presupuesto dirigida por John Carpenter y protagonizada por Jamie Lee Curtis y Donald Pleasence.
Narra la historia de un enfermo psiquiátrico -encerrado por haber asesinado a su hermana- que se fuga y busca repetir su crimen. Presentó al villano Michael Myers y dio inició al género de slasher en que la trama gira alrededor de los sanguinarios asesinatos cometidos por algún villano, generalmente teniendo como víctimas a adolescentes. Aunque en realidad esta película es mucho menos gráfica en la violencia que presenta de lo que la mayoría imagina.
La película fue rodada de manera independiente y a muy bajo costo, 312.000 dólares, y fue un enorme éxito de taquilla. Este éxito provocó el rodaje de numerosas secuelas que explotaban el personaje de Michael Myers.
No obstante hay personas que consideran que el filme es una crítica a la generación de los 70 en EE. UU.. Pero para otros fue una gran película de terror, según la critica especializada esta película cambio el cine de terror, pero para otros simplemente fue una película de más.
